We offer learning opportunities for everyone – from School Groups to families and individuals. Our programme includes fun, educational and inspiring activities for people of all ages and abilities. Browse this page to find out about the different ways you can learn with us!

School Workshops

Our Craven Museum Education Workshops offer unique opportunities to explore our museum collection through object handling and immersive activities.

Our museum experts will use real and replica objects that will bring history to life. Join us in our brand new education facilities to explore and investigate what life was like in the past.

Discovery Boxes

Craven Museum offers a free loan box service to schools to help enhance classroom learning and encourage your class to discover and learn through engaging with real and replica objects. Each box centres around a theme and contains instructions on handling museum objects safely.

Our Discovery Boxes may be borrowed for up to two weeks. If you have a particular project and would like to borrow for a longer period, please get in touch.

The themes of the boxes range from Geology, Medieval Life and Victorian work and school life.

Craven Museum have four free home schooling resources available for you to download. If you can’t get close to our objects at present we can still share lots of amazing facts, images and even 3D models for you to explore!

Heritage Schools Award

The Heritage Schools Programme in partnership with Craven Museum can support your school to achieve The National Heritage Schools Award. Providing guidance and resources about your own doorstep heritage with access to practical activities, resources and free CPD events.

Arts Award

Begin your Bronze Arts Award journey with Skipton Town Hall! Our team will guide you through the steps to achieving your Bronze Arts Award. Bronze Arts Award is a Level 1 qualification and is open to young people up to the age of 25.

Take part in arts activities, experience arts events and share your arts skills with others.

Young Archaeologists’ Club

The Young Archaeologists’ Club (YAC) is the only club for young people interested in archaeology. Take part in amazing archaeological activities with Craven Museum.

We have a programme of family friendly activities throughout the year, including our free Craven Museum ‘Make & Take’ craft sessions during school holidays. We provide all the materials and know-how so you can make and take home your own creation!

What’s On

Specialist Talks

Craven Museum host specialist talks that relate to the culture and heritage of the local area. Talks may be held online via Zoom or in person at Skipton Town Hall.

Recent subjects have included ‘Skipton’s First World War POW Camp & its German Prisoners’ and ‘Caves: The Hidden World beneath the Craven Dales’.
